Get the best skin care habits to last a lifetime

If you want good skincare habits but struggling to get an effective routine to stick, follow these 5 tips and you’ll be on face washing autopilot before you know it.

Attach to current habits

Use an existing habit as a reminder to wash, moisturise or exfoliate skin. Brushing your teeth is a good one, as it’s something you do both in the AM and PM. If you follow cleaning your teeth with your skincare routine, eventually you’ll get into the habit of doing it automatically.

Keep skincare products in view

Having your face washing products where you can see them everyday can help you to remember to actually use them. Maybe store them by your bed or on a shelf in your bathroom.  If you make it easy to access, you’ll be more likely to reach for them.  Just be careful to keep them out of direct sunlight.

Start with simple skincare habits and add to it later

If you’re new to skincare, jumping in the deep end with a 10-step routine can be overwhelming and you’ll be less likely to stick to it. Start with something easy and quick, like cleansing and moisturising. Once this becomes habit you can add an extra step and so on. Also look for products that are multi-purpose such as a combo cleanser/exfoliator.  Not only will you save time, your skin will be much happier with the extra TLC.

Remember your reason why

Having a powerful reason why holds you to account. Remember why you’re trying to develop good skincare habits and this should be motivation enough to keep you on track. For example, it could be that you want to clear up your acne or that you want to maintain your blemish-free skin or you have a special event at the end of the year and you want great looking skin.

Use a habit tracker

Technology is a great way to help us get into a routine. There are lots of apps now that help you track habits and send reminders to your device. If you’re someone who needs a prompt then get downloading.
