Summer’s here and its time to dig out your thongs and cozzies and start hitting the beaches. But before you do, make sure you are summer skin savvy. 1. Always use SPF

I’m sure you know you need to apply sunscreen when going outside on a hot, sunny day. However, how often do you apply SPF to your face?

You’re definitely not alone! It can be easy to neglect this part of our body, however the skin on our face is at risk of sun damage.

Make it a habit and incorporate it as part of your daily summer skincare routine, not just when you’re heading to the beach! To minimise on steps and products, invest in a 2-in-1 sunscreen and moisturiser.

2. Don’t over expose during the summer months

It’s also super important to ensure that you’re not over exposing your summer skin.

Whilst it’s necessary to let our skin see some sun for that all-important Vitamin D hit, too much sun-time can cause damage to our skin.

Try and stay out of direct sunlight particularly in the more intense midday hours. When you’re out in the sun, wear loose clothing to cover your skin and a hat to protect your face (you still need your SPF though!).

Too much sun can cause your skin to become more dehydrated than usual. This is because the sun causes the water in your skin to evaporate. No wonder it’s so important to be extra vigilant when it comes to staying hydrated in the summer months.

However, don’t be tempted to load up on thick heavy creams to combat the dryness. Save these for the winter. Instead, apply light creams or gels to the face as these are more soothing and won’t clog your pores and make you sweat.

4. Look after your lips

It can be easy to neglect our lips in the summer months. We can get so caught up in worrying about our skin that before we know it we’ve got cracked, flaky lips.

Make a point to include a good quality lip balm or cream into your daily skincare routine. Choose one with SPF to ensure that your lips are protected against the sun’s harmful rays.

Even better, pop it in your bag or pocket and keep topping up throughout the day. You’re lips will be luscious and hydrated in no time!

5. Increase exfoliation

During the summer months we need to keep on top of your exfoliation.  During hot weather, your pores are bigger and this can increase the likelihood of dirt getting trapped in your skin, yuck

Adding an extra exfoliation session to your week will ensure that those pesky pores are regularly getting cleaned out, meaning you’ll always look fresh!

    Thank you for this tips, it is really useful to take care of skin in summer. Besides this one should also take care of their eyes in summer as UV rays are more harmful for the eye health. To protect the eyes in summer you can wear sunglasses which provides UV protection.
