Facial oils are big in skincare right now, with claims to leave your skin beautiful and glowing. In fact you can find so many different products containing all kinds of oils that it can be hard to know which ones are best.
Well fear not…
In this post we’re going to be giving you a run down of the top natural facial oils commonly found in skincare products and how they leave your skin looking flawless.
These oils are: coconut, jojoba (pronounced ho-ho-ba), avocado, grapeseed, rosehip, safflower, argan, almond, apricot kernel and calendula.
What’s so great about oils?
The oils mentioned are all 100% natural and derived from plant-based sources. This is great news for our skin, as these chemical free oils will be nourishing rather than harsh and potentially harmful.
Aren’t all oils the same?
In short: no!
Whilst oils can have similarities all oils are different. The most obvious difference is from where they’re extracted. Some oils are lighter in colour and feel than others. For example rosehip oil is much lighter on the skin than coconut and absorbs more quickly as a result.
However, in this article we are not going to touch on the differences, but instead focus on the similarities that make these oils so widely used in skincare.
Let’s start with common benefits…
All the facial oils listed above are moisturising and help lock moisture into our skin due to the hydration they provide. This helps our skin to look radiant and who doesn’t want that? We all know how important this is for people with dry skin, but did you know that oily, acne-prone skin also benefits from extra hydration?
People with oily skin may tend to use products that over dry the skin or shy away from using moisturisers totally. In fact this can be making the problem worse. Stripping the skin of oils irritates the skin and makes it produce more oils (and therefore spots) as a result. So make sure to keep your skin happy and hydrated!
What’s great is that many oils are actually pimple fighting as they help to get rid of the nasty sebum that clogs pores and causes breakouts. Coconut, jojoba, avocado, grapeseed, rosehip, safflower, argan and almond oils all have this property. That’s quite a list!
Another great thing…
Whilst you might think it’s too early to think about anti-aging products, it’s actually the perfect time. You’ve got youthful skin which ideally you want to look after and keep that way for as long as possible.
All these oils help prevent and slow down aging. This is due to their healing properties, which help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Every oil mentioned, except rosehip and calendula, naturally contains vitamin E. This powerful vitamin helps to protect against free radicals, which damage and age our skin. In turn this evens out skin tone and balances our oil production.
And there’s more…
As all the oils listed are completely natural they are also brilliant for sensitive skin. In most cases they actually help to heal and soothe skin conditions, such as psoriasis, due to their anti-inflammatory properties and the antioxidants they contain.
There is certainly no denying that these natural oils are great for leaving our skin looking beautiful.
Which are your favourite oils? We’d love to hear from you!
