Love your winter skin and give it some extra TLC

The winter months can be cold and harsh to our skin, so it’s important to give it some extra TLC. Follow these 5 tips to make sure your winter skin is glowing throughout the season.

Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!

Cold air increases moisture loss which can leave you with very dry skin. Therefore moisturising is super important. You might find that you need to apply more product or a much heavier nourishing cream during the winter months to keep your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Avoid super hot showers and baths

Not exactly what you want to hear, as getting into a hot shower after being out in the relenting cold is what dreams are made of. However, opt for lukewarm water. If the water is too hot it can break down barriers on your skin, which leads to a loss of moisture.

Winter skin loves moisturiser

Apply SPF

Yes, really! The sun can still damage your skin even if it’s not hot. Make sure to wear a good sunscreen protection on your face to protect yourself against the damage caused by harmful UV rays.  The drier your skin during the winter, the more susceptible you may be to sunburn so be sun savvy and protect your skin.

Gentle exfoliation

The key word here is gentle. As your skin can dry out more easily in the winter, it’s important to buff away those dead skin cells. By doing this our winter BFF, moisturiser, can be more easily absorbed.  During the cooler months limit exfoliation to once a week to avoid irritating sensitive winter skin.

Wear a scarf

Not only can wearing a scarf keep you warm, but it also protects against moisture loss from the cold. Wrap it up over your face for maximum protection and make sure to wear fabric that won’t irritate your skin.
